Financial Manager, Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Our client, a growing mechanical contractor headquartered in the greater Jacksonville, NC area, is seeking a Director of Finance & Accounting to lead and strengthen its in-house finance function.
This organization specializes in HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, sheet metal, and utilities construction
, with a strong foundation serving federal clients and continued expansion into regional commercial markets across eastern North Carolina.
This is a highly visible leadership role reporting directly to the CEO. The Director of Finance & Accounting will serve as the financial anchor of the organization, overseeing core accounting operations, improving reporting and forecasting, supporting bonding and banking relationships, and developing a small in-house finance team.
Key Responsibilities- Lead day-to-day accounting and finance operations, including AP, AR, payroll, job costing, monthly close, and annual close
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and management reporting
- Improve financial visibility, forecasting, budgeting, and decision support
- Support bonding, banking, working capital, and cash flow management
- Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes
- Support federal contract compliance, including certified payroll and prevailing wage reporting
- Build, lead, and develop a small in-house accounting and finance team
- Partner closely with the CEO on financial strategy, growth planning, and business performance
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 10+ years of finance/accounting leadership experience at the Controller or Director level
- 7+ years of experience in construction, mechanical contracting, trades, or a similar project-based environment
- Prior experience serving as the senior finance leader for a company with $20M+ in annual revenue and 50+ employees
- Hands-on experience with AP, AR, payroll, job costing, financial reporting, and close processes
- Experience managing bonding and banking relationships
- Knowledge of federal contract compliance, certified payroll, and prevailing wage reporting
- Experience with construction accounting software such as Computer Ease, Deltek, or similar
