Essential Functions- Works with Lead Health Educator and Community Relations Manager to plan, implement, and evaluate public health programs and services to better the health of the Onslow County community utilizing data from the Community Health Needs Assessment and implementing Community Health Improvement Plans (CHIPs) strategies.
- Assist the Community Relations Manager and Lead Health Educator with updating the Scorecard and completing the State of the County (SOTCH) report.
- Assist the Lead Health Educator and Community Relations Manager with meeting agendas and facilitation of Onslow County Health Department‑led meetings as assigned.
- Serve as a backup for health education programs as needed.
- Assist the Community Relations Manager, Health Education Assistant, and the Public Health Program Planner and Coordinator with website updates and periodic reviews.
- Assists the Community Relations Team with networking, social media, and traditional advertisement of Health Department Services.
- Assists the Community Relations Manager and Health Educators with identifying grant opportunities and determining feasibility for grant applications (e.g., aligning grant opportunities with identified priorities and strategies).
- Prepares, selects, assembles, and distributes health educational and information materials to local agencies, organizations, and other individuals and groups interested in health programs and problems.
- Visits schools, community organizations, professional groups, and local health departments to advise on methods of developing interest and participation in public health programs.
- Assists in planning, developing, and conducting workshops, conferences, and training opportunities for professional groups and the public.
- Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed, or volunteers.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Accesses existing quantitative and qualitative data (e.g. primary and secondary data, vital statistics, etc.).
- Describes factors that affect the health of a community (e.g. income, education, laws, environment, resilience, food security, access to healthcare, etc.).
- Explains the importance of data management for designing, implementing, evaluating, and improving policies, programs, and services.
- Contributes to the development of the rationale for policies, programs, and services.
- Identifies individuals and organizations who can contribute to implementation of policies, programs, and services.
- Contributes to development, implements, and monitors impact of community health improvement plans.
- Communicates with linguistic and cultural proficiency (e.g. tailoring messages for different audiences, using plain language).
- Communicates information to influence behavior and improve health (e.g. encouraging vaccinations, preparing for emergencies, discouraging tobacco use).
