The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

Description of Work

Reporting directly to the South Central Region Director, this position functions as Warden IV and is part of the management team.

This position serves at the pleasure of agency leadership.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Managing the total operation of the prison facility including Administration, Custody, Food Service, Maintenance, and Programs.
• Setting goals and priorities for each component within the facility and making modifications, as needed.
• Developing and implementing long-range plans for the facility including future missions, programming, and operational needs.
• Providing direct involvement with hiring, discipline, and training of employees.
• Gather, evaluate, and report facility related data to support informed decision making and operational improvement.

Required Adverse Weather Reporting:

This position is designated as “Mandatory” and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Salary Grade Range: $70,627.00 - $

The Agency has standardized Warden salaries. Selected applicant starting salary at this location will be $120,000.

Strong understanding of community resources and available services across public and private programs, with the ability to connect individuals or teams to appropriate supports.

About The Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
