Job Description

The Flight Equipment, Aircraft Mechanic II may supervise lower skilled mechanics and assist with troubleshooting malfunctions in Aircraft Life Support Systems (ALSS) on the CH-53 aircraft. Performs preventative maintenance on assigned aircraft and ALSS assigned to the activity IAW required Maintenance Request Card (MRC) and approved directives. May perform special projects within the capabilities of the ALSS shop in accordance with the current Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP).

This worker reads and interprets manufacturers' manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.

Services and inspects explosive system devices. Must be capable of rendering safe for maintenance any egress/explosive system devices which have been involved in mishaps and disposes of them in according to instructions. Performs all duties in accordance with the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) and Commander Naval Air Forces Instruction 4790.2B.

Perform services involving Class V Ammunition and Explosive (A&E) material handling IAW OPNAVINST 8023.24. ALSS maintenance can only be performed by personnel meeting the specific training and certification standards outlined in MCO 8023.3 Series .

Job duties require that this mechanic: adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, conducts maintenance inspections, and performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft. Assists with the jacking and towing of aircraft, enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition. Performs duties of Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR) and ensures all maintenance is performed and inspected in accordance with the NAMP.

Job Requirements
  • Work, cooperate and communicate, as directed, with supervisors, team leaders and coworkers satisfactorily.
  • Knowledgeable with Joint Satellite Tracking System (JSETS), CAD/PAD and AWIS.
  • Working knowledge of OOMA.
  • Possess a minimum of five (5) years Aviation experience.
  • Previously completed Parachute Rigger “A” School.
  • Will work in close proximity to ordnance, must have previously qualified as Quality Assurance Safety Observer (QASO).
  • Possess a working knowledge of the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) and 13 Series manuals.
  • Observe personal safety and line precautions around aircraft and work spaces.
  • High school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) certificate
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working within Military aviation
