Operational in Indonesia for more than 40 years, IOM Indonesia is working on a wide range of activities in partnership with the Government of Indonesia, civil society, private sector actors, migrants and communities. IOM Indonesia is engaged in several thematic areas, including:
Counter‑Trafficking (CT), Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion (LMI), Disasters, Climate and Resilience (DCR), Immigration and Border Governance (IBG), Refugee Care, Migration Health, Migration Governance, and Resettlement and Voluntary Returns.
IOM Indonesia aims to improve the quality of care for refugees and asylum seekers referred to IOM by the Government of Indonesia according to applicable international humanitarian and human rights standards. IOM also contributes to the increased protection of vulnerable subgroups of displaced persons, such as unaccompanied migrant children (UMCs), victims of sexual and gender‑based violence, pregnant women, and the elderly, among others, through the establishment of referral mechanisms involving the active participation of specialized state and non‑state service providers.
The Legal and Compliance Unit is currently enhancing internal governance mechanisms, including the rollout of a centralized contract tracking system and the improvement of risk registry monitoring processes. The intern will contribute to these initiatives by providing support in contract tracking, risk registry documentation, and legal research activities under the guidance of the supervisor. The internship will also provide hands‑on exposure to legal and compliance functions within the organization.
Under direct supervisory of National Legal and Compliance Officer and overall supervision of Chief of Mission, this position will support the Legal and Compliance Unit in managing the administrative process of contract/agreement handling, including coordination with LEG ROAP for legal review, and ensuring timely and organized contract workflows.
Responsibilities Learning Objectives- Support consolidation of active and archived contracts into a centralized tracker, including extraction and recording of key contract information.
- Assist in identifying missing documentation or inconsistencies and support preparation and updating of contract expiry monitoring lists and periodic contract status summaries.
- Support updating and maintaining the Mission’s risk registry, including tracking mitigation measures and follow‑up actions, organizing supporting documentation, and assisting in the preparation of draft risk summary reports.
- Conduct legal research on Indonesian laws and regulations relevant to operational activities and prepare concise research summaries and briefing notes under supervision.
- Assist in reviewing draft agreements for basic compliance checks and support preparation of internal legal notes and reference materials.
- Provide administrative and coordination support to the Legal and Compliance Unit, including taking minutes of meetings, organizing documentation, and supporting follow‑up actions, as assigned by the National Legal and Compliance Officer.

Required Qualifications and Experience Education
- Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum undergraduate school) in Law.
- Enrolled in a second university degree (graduate school/equivalent); or
- Have graduated with a university degree within one year of graduation.
- Relevant professional or volunteer experience with civil society organizations, volunteer groups is an advantage.
