Under general direction of the Chief Engineer I (CE I), CF, the Stationary Engineer (SE), CF Culinary/Central Ops performs a variety of skilled work in the operation, repair, maintenance, and Preventative Maintenance (PM) of steam lines, heating/ventilation, air conditioning systems and devices used to control temperatures, condensate return systems, electrical/mechanical and associated control systems and refrigeration. The SE is also responsible for maintaining the habitability and environmental conditions of both living and work spaces.

Supervises incarcerated people work crews, keeps incarcerated people timecards, completes work orders both demand and preventive maintenance, makes estimates for time and materials, requisitions materials and supplies, keeps tools and equipment in good condition, keeps records, prepares reports, and assists in contract writing and service contracts. Takes custody of assigned incarcerated people to commence duties. This position may be required to cover shifts in the Main Boiler Room on an "as needed" basis to meet institutional needs.

This position may also be required to perform work (within the scope of civil service classification Stationary Engineer), as needed by the institution in assisting other maintenance staff or in another area.

The SE, Culinary/Central Ops position is primarily responsible for the maintenance and repairs of all equipment in:
Gymnasium, Clothing Room, Canteen, Dining Halls, Main Culinary, Hospital, Education, Facility A Counselor's Trailer, Plaza Control, Plaza Offices, Chapels and Chapel Offices, and Central Ops Roof. This position may be required to assist other Stationary Engineers in the performance of their duties as directed by the CE I.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 30, 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes.

Working Conditions

About this location -- Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) is located in the foothills near Jamestown, California, in the heart of the Mother Lode Gold Country.

It is adjacent to the Stanislaus National Forest, offering pine trees, mountain streams, and an abundance of recreational activities (fishing, swimming, camping, skiing, golfing, etc.).The prison is approximately 70 miles from Yosemite National Park.

The primary mission of SCC is to provide housing, programs and services for minimum and medium custody incarcerated individuals, to aid in their rehabilitation. SCC is responsible for the training and placement of male incarcerated individuals in the Conservation Camp Program. SCC administers male camps located throughout California.
