Job Title

Instructor, Communication - Adjunct

Employment Type

Part-time

Responsibilities Teaching

Prepare and teach Communication courses for transfer and career technical programs.

  • Develop learner-centered lesson plans.
  • Employ teaching strategies and instructional materials for diverse learning styles.
  • Incorporate appropriate technology in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments.
  • Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population.
  • Prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education as appropriate.
Professional Development
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field; maintain current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies.
Administration
  • Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces, including upkeep of assigned equipment.
  • Provide for the security of facilities, equipment, and instructional materials, and maintain safe working conditions.
  • Maintain student records (grades, attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using technology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, Self‑Service, Canvas).
  • Comply with all applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations.
Student Support
  • Conduct recruiting activities.
  • Promote retention and persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success.
  • Refer students to campus and community resources when appropriate.

Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork.

Additional Duties
  • Maintain student records.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications Education Required

Master’s degree in Communication or a related field from an institutionally accredited university with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Communication.

Education Preferred

Doctoral degree in Communication from an institutionally accredited university.

Experience Required

Post‑secondary teaching experience in Communication.

Experience Preferred
  • Community College teaching experience.
  • Post‑secondary teaching experience in Communication.
  • Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems.
KSA Required
  • Multi‑task.
  • Support the Vision and Mission of the College.
  • Adapt to changing procedures, protocols, or assignments.
  • Create and maintain a learner-centered environment.
  • Ability to effectively implement and apply technology solutions.
