Instructor, Sociology – Adjunct

Teaching faculty are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field.
The faculty member will prepare and teach Sociology courses designed for transfer and support of career technical programs. The individual must be able to instruct a wide variety of topics within the classroom, via Canvas, and manage concepts/resources in an online learning laboratory environment. Candidates may be required to teach day, evening, and/or weekend hours.
Responsibilities- Teaching
- Prepare and teach departmental courses; develop learner‑centered lesson plans; employ teaching strategies and instructional materials for different learning styles; incorporate current technology; create and model a quality learning environment; prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support materials; conduct assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Professional Development
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in field; maintain current credentials or licensures; advance teaching skills and strategies.
- Administration
- Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces; provide security of facilities, equipment, and instructional materials; maintain student records in accordance with deadlines using Colleague, Self‑Service, Canvas; comply with all applicable rules and regulations.
- Student Support
- Conduct recruiting activities; promote retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success; refer students to campus and community resources.
- Additional Duties
- Maintain student records; perform all duties assigned by supervisor.
- Education Required: Master’s degree in Sociology or related field with minimum 18 graduate semester hour credits in Sociology.
- Education Preferred: Doctoral degree in Sociology.
- Experience
Required:
Post‑secondary teaching experience in Sociology. - Experience Preferred: Community College teaching experience; assessment of student learning outcomes; distance learning or alternate instructional delivery systems.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Multi‑task; support the Vision and Mission of the College; adapt to changing procedures; create learner‑centered environment; effectively implement and apply technology solutions.
May include teaching day and evening and on multiple campuses.
