Job Description

Teaching faculty at GTCC are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. The faculty member will provide quality instruction and participate actively in the affairs of the college.

Under general supervision, this individual will prepare and teach K12 Educator Prep courses designed for transfer and support of career technical programs. The faculty member must be able to instruct a wide variety of topics within the classroom, via Canvas, and manage concepts/resources in an online learning laboratory environment. Candidates may be required to teach day, evening, and/or weekend hours.

Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Prepare and teach departmental courses, developing learner‑centered lesson plans, employing diverse teaching strategies and instructional materials for different learning styles, incorporating current technology in classroom and online environments, creating a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population, preparing, distributing, and utilizing instructional support materials, and conducting assessment of student learning outcomes.

Professional Development

  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field, maintain current credentials or licensures as required, and advance teaching skills and strategies.

Administration

  • Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces, ensure security of facilities and materials, maintain student records using technology‑based programs, and comply with all applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations.

Student Support

  • Conduct recruiting activities, promote retention/persistence by helping students develop strategies for success, refer students to campus and community resources, and demonstrate and model employability skills such as adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork.

Additional Duties

  • Maintain student records and perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications

Education Required

  • Master’s degree in Education or a related field from an accredited university with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hour credits in Elementary Education.
  • NC Professional Educators License.

Education Preferred

  • Doctoral degree in Education from an accredited university.

Experience Required

  • Post‑secondary teaching experience in Education.

Experience Preferred

  • Community College teaching experience.
  • Post‑secondary teaching experience in Educator Preparation Program.
  • Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems.

KSA Required

  • Understanding and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College.
  • Ability to multi‑task, support the vision and mission, adapt to changing procedures, create a learner‑centered environment, and effectively implement and apply technology solutions.

Additional Requirements

  • Mandatory GTCC trainings upon initial hire and annually as required.
  • Physical demands may include teaching day and evening and on multiple campuses.
  • Criminal history checks are required.
