Job Description
Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. The instructor will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.
Under general supervision, the instructor will prepare and teach automotive and transportation courses designed for the automotive systems technology programs. The instructor must be able to instruct a wide variety of topics within the curriculum in a laboratory environment and may be required to teach day, evening, and/or weekend hours.
Responsibilities- Prepare and teach departmental courses, including developing learner‑centered lesson plans, employing teaching strategies and instructional materials for different learning styles, incorporating appropriate technology, creating a quality learning environment, preparing instructional materials, and conducting assessments.
- Participate in professional development to maintain currency in the field and advance teaching skills.
- Provide daily oversight of facilities, equipment, and student records, including maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces, ensuring safety, and recording grades and attendance.
- Address student concerns promptly, promote retention and persistence, and refer students to campus and community resources.
- Demonstrate adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork as employability skills.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Education Required:
Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology or related field from a regionally accredited institution; ASE certifications in teaching assignments; valid driver’s license with acceptable record. - Education Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology or related field from a regionally accredited institution; ASE Automotive Master certification. - Experience
Required:
3 years of relevant industry experience in an automotive repair facility; experience and proficiency with automotive testing and diagnostic equipment. - Experience Preferred:
Greater than 3 years of relevant industry experience; post‑secondary teaching and/or industry training experience; experience with assessment of student learning outcomes; experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems. - KSA
Required:
Understanding of community college mission; ability to multi‑task, respect diversity, adapt to changing procedures, create learner‑centered environment, communicate effectively, and implement technology solutions.
- May require teaching day, evening, and/or weekend hours.
- Must follow general industry safety standards, maintain safety in classroom and lab settings, remain in stationary position for extended periods, work in non climate‑controlled lab/shop setting.
