Instructor, Adult Education (POWER Pathways) – Adjunct
Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Adjunct Instructor to teach students enrolled in the Power Pathways Program. The role involves working with students with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and requires a strong background in Exceptional Children (EC) or individuals with IDD. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required.
Responsibilities- Deliver high‑quality classroom and online instruction to students, maintaining attendance records and monitoring progress.
- Develop engaging lesson plans aligned with the NC Adult Education Content Standards and Power Pathways curriculum guidelines.
- Provide substitute instruction as needed.
- Use diverse teaching methods and instructional technologies to accommodate varied learning styles.
- Assess student progress through examinations, assignments, and projects, giving timely and constructive feedback.
- Advise students on attendance, educational and occupational goals, and individual progress plans.
- Manage classroom behavior and uphold the student code of conduct.
- Support students in achieving educational and career objectives, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Integrate contextualized career preparation and CASAS or TABE preparation into daily lessons.
- Collaborate with other Power Pathways instructors to ensure integrated education and training components.
- Collaborate with GTCC faculty and staff to refine course materials and instructional strategies.
- Demonstrate and model College employability skills such as adaptability, communication, problem‑solving, responsibility, and teamwork.
- Participate in local, regional, and state professional development initiatives.
- Attend department meetings and contribute to program planning and evaluation.
- Recruit students and work with community partners to ensure adequate enrollment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field (advanced degrees and certifications preferred).
- Previous teaching experience at a community college or similar setting.
- Practical experience in the food service or customer service industry (preferred).
- Experience working with Exceptional Children or individuals with IDD.
- Knowledge of NC Adult Education Content Standards and curriculum design.
- Ability to multi‑task and manage multiple priorities.

- Adapt to changing procedures, protocols, and assignments.
- Create and maintain a learner‑centered environment.
- Communicate effectively.
- Implement and apply technology solutions.
- Experience completing and reviewing course documentation (rosters, contracts, etc.).
- Ability to work independently and balance multiple priorities.
- Experience working in the food service/culinary industry.
- May require instruction on Greensboro, High Point, or Jamestown campuses, or at community partner locations.
- Schedule may include evenings and occasional weekends.
- Work mostly sitting with some walking or standing; may carry objects up to 20 pounds.
- Limited exposure to hazardous chemicals, filth, fumes, adverse weather, or personal health risks.
