Full Time/Part Time (Adjunct Faculty)

Job Description

Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. The instructor will be responsible for quality instruction and effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.

Duties

and Functions
  • Prepare and teach Adult Basic and Adult Secondary Education courses in the Adult Education program, including instruction across a wide variety of topics within the curriculum. May be required to teach day and/or evening hours.
  • Administer and coordinate student CASAS and/or TABE post‑testing referrals as needed.
  • Work with students with Intellectual or Developmental disabilities and/or prepare students for high school equivalency tests such as GED, HiSET or TASC, and for transition to post‑secondary education and employment.
  • Develop learner‑centered lesson plans and employ teaching strategies and instructional materials appropriate for different learning styles.
  • Incorporate current technology in classroom, distance learning and laboratory environments, employing appropriate instructional media and devices.
  • Conduct appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education.
  • Maintain a professional status by participating in professional development activities, maintaining current credentials or licensures, and advancing teaching skills.
  • Provide daily oversight of facilities, equipment, and student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in compliance with college, state, and federal rules.
  • Provide a safe work environment, protect facilities and instructional materials, and maintain student records using technology‑based programs such as Colleague, Web Advisor, Moodle.
  • Address student concerns in a timely manner, promote retention and persistence by helping students develop strategies for success, and refer them to campus or community resources when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree required from a regionally accredited post‑secondary institution.
    • Master’s degree in Adult Education or related field preferred.
    Experience
    • Teaching and/or industry training experience.
    • Fluent reading, spoken, and written English communication skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Teaching experience in Adult Education (Basic Skills) or in post‑secondary education (preferred).
    • Experience assessing student learning outcomes (preferred).
    • Experience with distance learning or alternative instructional delivery systems (preferred).

  • Additional Requirements
    • Completing and reviewing course documentation (rosters, contracts, etc.).
    • Ability to work independently and balance multiple priorities.
    • Mandatory GTCC trainings upon initial hire and annually as required.

  • Physical Demands
  • Work a flexible schedule including some evenings and occasional weekends; may include instruction on Greensboro, High Point, Cameron campuses, or a community partner location.
  • Mostly sitting with occasional walking or standing; carrying items up to 20 pounds; rare exposure to hazardous chemicals, filth, fumes, adverse weather, or personal health and safety risks.
  • Criminal history checks with acceptable results are required.
