Offer Description

Recruitment is carried out in order to employ an assistant professor (post-doc) to carry out scientific tasks in the project of the National Science Center OPUS 29 " Women in the Lvov–Warsaw School: an analysis of the phenomenon " The appointment will be at the level of assistant professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Warsaw, for the period of 24 months.

One of the most significant features of the Lvov–Warsaw School – Poland’s most important philosophical movement – is the participation of women in its activities, which is unique on a global scale. The project aims to explain the phenomenon of women in the Lvov–Warsaw School as a collective group, as well as to trace the individual life stories and assess the scholarly output of specific members of this group.

We will, amongst other things, address the question of what led such a large group of talented women to undertake their studies and subsequently conduct independent research within the School’s circle: were these historical, social or personal factors? We will examine the works of the Lvov–Warsaw School’s female members to ensure that their academic achievements are not forgotten. Finally, we will address the question of the extent to which the Lvov–Warsaw School contributed to the realisation of the idea of gender equality in academia, and how it came to be that women from the Lvov–Warsaw School shaped the model of the Polish female intellectual.

The person employed in a post-doctoral role will be involved in carrying out all the project’s research tasks:

  • To explain and describe the phenomenon of women in the SLW through the prism of the school’s methodological and pedagogical programme, as well as historical and personality-related factors;
  • Reconstructing the biographies, views and academic and non-academic activities of female representatives of the SLW;
  • Reconstructing the significance of women from the SLW for the issue of gender equality in science.

The duties of the post-doc will include:

  • Participating in 1–2 international academic conferences per year.
  • Preparing at least two research articles for international journals (over the entire period of employment).
  • Regular and active participation in research team meetings.
  • Collaborating with the project leader on organisational matters and in promoting the project.

The position does not involve teaching duties
, but interested individuals will have the opportunity to gain such experience ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). ).
