The Program Director in collaboration with the Director provides the vision and leadership required to realize the mission of the Continuing Education and Customized Training Program and the college mary administrative responsibilities include program development/management, budget management, developing/maintaining external industry partnerships and providing operational supervision to part time faculty in the department. Instructional responsibilities require a strong environmental, health and safety skill set and the ability to teach students effectively in an instructional environment.

The Program Director is a member of the full-time faculty and maintains a teaching load with some administrative release time to carry out duties. Additional responsibilities include maintaining GTCC’s accreditation as an ATS (Accredited Training Sponsor) with the NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research).

Duties/Functions
  • Managing/coordinating multiple client requests/programs, teaching and developing classes with limited delivery resources.
  • Managing conflicting process timelines for internal administrative processes versus client request. Knowing how and whom to influence to expedite processes to meet timelines when needed.
  • Class scheduling, including instructor, location, materials, equipment, and quick decisions and follow up communications about class schedule adjustments due to weather, instructor illness, material delays, etc.
  • Discerning best training solutions and investment proposal (revenue/ FTE generating project) to benefit client and college.
  • Managing multiple customized training programs and analyzing budget plan versus actual over the 3 year life of the project.
  • Understanding administrative timelines for open enrollment course planning and delivery, and client specified training delivery.
  • Managing the paperwork process: contract, registrations, supply orders, etc.

    Industry Trades and Training administration re: updates, assignments scheduling, all course setup, changes, contracts, approval flows, records management.
  • Daily:
    Director of Industry Trades and Training re. advising, planning, project updates, problem solving, receiving division communications.
  • Daily: multiple clients re: selling, developing and delivering training, resolving schedule/delivery problems, discussing potential training solutions, updating program progress.
  • Daily:
    Continuing Education Registrar staff re: paperwork and updates.
  • Weekly:
    Accounting/Finance/Purchasing staff re: 3rd party vendors, accounts payable, account receivable, budget questions, material order follow-up.
  • Monthly: GTCC staff and faculty re: discussions, training space planning.
Education Required
  • Associate’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management or a related field from an institutionally accredited college or university.
  • OSHA 30 Authorized Trainer (Construction) or the ability to attain certification within 3 months of hire.
  • OSHA Authorized Trainer for General Industry and Construction Industry standards ( OSHA 500) or the ability to attain certification within 6 months of hire.
  • National Center for Construction Education and Research ( NCCER ) Instructor Certification or the ability to attain certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Lean Six Sigma Continuous improvement certification or the ability to attain certification within 6 months of hire.
Education Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management or a related field from an institutionally accredited college or university.
  • OSHA Specialized certifications, e.g. Fall Protection, Lockout/Tagout, Rigging & Signaling, Electrical Safety, etc.
Experience Required
  • Three years of experience delivering classroom-based construction/workplace safety training.
  • Experience developing training content.
  • Experience in a construction or manufacturing environment.
Experience Preferred
  • Greater than three years of experience delivering classroom-based construction/workplace safety training.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience with the North Carolina Edge Customized Training Program.
