The Coordinator of Prison Education works closely with Academic Affairs to oversee all aspects of the prison education program. The Coordinator builds support for the program among a range of internal and external constituents, ensures financial stewardship, and works with the Department of Corrections (DOCCS) and correctional facility leadership to support smooth, compliant program operations; and works with incarcerated students to support their successful participation in the program.
The Coordinator helps ensure instructional continuity and compliance with facility requirements, while supporting student retention and course completion. This role operates within established College and DOCCS policies and follows the appropriate approval workflow for curriculum, staffing changes, budget decisions, and facility requests.
QualificationsRequired
- Previous experience in an education setting (e.g., higher education, adult education, K-12, training, or student services).
- Bachelor's degree in a related field of study.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated ability to engage effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong work ethic and professionalism; demonstrates enthusiasm for collaboration and teamwork.
- Valid NYS driver's license and ability to travel as required.
- Flexible schedule, including evening and/or weekend work as needed throughout the calendar year.
- Ability to work independently with strong organizational and management skills.
- Ability to effectively use College technology systems and generate required reports.
- Must be cleared as a DOCCS Volunteer and maintain eligibility/status in accordance with DOCCS requirements.
Preferred
- Demonstrated experience in prison education and/or justice-involved student transition services (or closely related experience).
- Master's Degree
