This GIS Analyst opportunity is for a flexible and self-motivated individual that is willing to learn and grow as part of a team while providing GIS, data management, and data analysis support to for projects across many service areas, including environmental site assessments, remediation, management system development, compliance and sustainability. Your primary responsibilities in this position will include map production, spatial analysis, data QA/QC, report generation, data acquisition, web map creation, SQL query development, and process automation for both routine and complex projects across Australia and New Zealand.
Some support for projects from the United States will also be required. This candidate must be an Australian resident.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Producing high quality maps and figures for use in reports and presentations.
- Developing user-friendly web applications.
- Aiding projects by accurately utilizing spatial analysis.
- Creating scripts to assist in task automation and the improvement of internal processes.
- Investigating and procuring spatial data from publicly available sources.
- Obtaining, cleaning, reviewing, synthesizing, and visualizing environmental data in an organized and concise manner.
- Running, modifying, and developing reports to ensure data quality and accuracy.
- Developing and documenting reproducible scripts and tools to improve data cleaning and analysis processes.
- Providing level of effort estimates (estimated time to completion) for requested tasks.
- Coordinating with internal and external clients to provide data management and spatial solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree or certificate in Geography, GIS, Database Management, or closely related field of study.
- 5+ years of professional experience in GIS.
- 2+ years of professional experience in data management.
- An intermediate understanding and experience in the following:
- ESRI ArcGIS Software Suite
- SQL (Microsoft SQL Server)
- Microsoft Excel
- Python
- Experience working with environmental chemistry data.
- Knowledge and execution of cartographic design principles.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and data quality.
- Demonstrated understanding of relational database concepts and principles.
- Ability to think strategically and conceptually about environmental data and develop solutions to support project objectives.
- Curiosity and an affinity for solving problems.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities, with ability to self-manage priorities, deadlines, and budgets.
- Willingness to learn and gain technical expertise by working on multiple projects and with experts in technical areas of practice.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to communicate proactively, efficiently, and directly with team members.
- Familiarity with Earth Soft’s EQuIS Data Management System.
- Familiarity with Earth Science Information System’s ESdat.
- Experience developing electronic forms for field data collection using applications like Fulcrum.
- Experience with a task management system (Jira).
