Geotechnical Field Technician

We are seeking a skilled Geotechnical Field Technician to support a wide range of engineering and construction projects across multiple industries.

This role focuses on field testing, inspections, sample collection, and technical documentation to ensure project quality and compliance.

You will work alongside experienced professionals on projects involving infrastructure, renewable energy, transportation, buildings, and environmental initiatives.

The Geotechnical Field Technician will support engineering teams by performing field investigations, construction quality control activities, and technical reporting. The role requires strong attention to detail, commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively across various project environments.

• Perform geotechnical and construction quality control field testing and inspections, including compaction, concrete, rebar, and related activities.
• Support geotechnical drilling operations through field logging and documentation.
• Assist senior technical staff with multidisciplinary projects, including sample collection, preparation, and testing.
• Set up and conduct field and laboratory tests while accurately recording results and observations.
• Prepare factual reports, summaries, data sheets, graphs, and documentation to support technical analysis.
• Follow established safety procedures and contribute to a strong health and safety culture during field, laboratory, and office activities.
• Assist with the preparation of technical deliverables, including reports, proposals, qualification packages, and project documentation.
• Participate in project coordination meetings, site planning discussions, and team activities.
Maintain accurate records related to safety information, equipment calibration, manuals, and technical standards.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with internal teams, clients, contractors, and external stakeholders.
• Travel to remote locations and project sites for extended field assignments when required.

The ideal candidate has a technical background in civil or geotechnical engineering and practical experience with construction materials testing and field inspections. You should be comfortable working outdoors, handling technical equipment, and following strict quality and safety standards.

• Technical diploma in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
• More than 5 years of experience in highway materials, construction materials sampling, testing, and inspection.
• Experience working with soil and aggregate materials, asphalt, and laboratory testing is preferred.
• Knowledge of geotechnical field procedures, construction quality control practices, and technical documentation.
• CSA, CCIL, or ACI certification is considered an asset.
• Ability to regularly handle material samples weighing up to 25 kg.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately record, analyze, and report field data.
• Demonstrated commitment to occupational health and safety practices.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness and flexibility to travel for field assignments, including remote project locations.
