Overview

Financial Crime Due Diligence & Advisory Senior Manager – the external title for the internal role of Due Diligence Approval & Advisory Lead. The position is based in Poland and reports to the Head of Counter party Lifecycle Management (CLCM) Execution. The manager leads global decision‑making on complex Counter party Due Diligence (DD) and Financial Crime risk matters within Shell’s CLCM Centre of Excellence, exercising approval authority in line with the T&S Manual of Authority (MOA).

Responsibilities
  • Build, engage and lead a global community of advisors and specialists.
  • Lead the execution of Counter party DD, screening and risk escalation activities, ensuring compliance with the T&S Financial Crime Policy and associated standards.
  • Exercise approval authority for DD reviews and risk assessments, maintaining a consistent, risk‑based decision process across onboarding, periodic, trigger‑based and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) cases.
  • Serve as the senior Financial Crime SME for the CLCM COE, providing expert guidance on complex, high‑risk and escalated cases to KYC teams and business stakeholders.
  • Review and challenge Due Diligence risk assessments, ensuring accurate risk identification, documentation and escalation in line with the MOA.
  • Provide advice on the interpretation and application of Financial Crime policies, including evaluation of exceptions and non‑standard scenarios.
  • Lead the resolution of significant risk, compliance and operational escalations arising from DD reviews, screening activities and counter party onboarding processes.
  • Partner with Trade Compliance and Screening teams to manage screening tools and resolve sanctions, adverse media, Politically Exposed Person (PEP) and other related issues.
  • Build and strengthen Financial Crime and KYC capabilities through coaching, mentoring, knowledge sharing and targeted training programmes.
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Business Integration, Assurance, Legal, Finance, Audit and other stakeholders to enhance risk management and governance.
  • Drive transformation, process improvement and continuous improvement initiatives to increase operational effectiveness across the counter party lifecycle.
  • Support the Head of CLCM Execution and T&S Compliance on investigations, strategic projects and regulatory initiatives.
  • Represent the function in governance forums, stakeholder engagements and decision‑making discussions as required.
Qualifications
  • Extensive senior experience managing KYC, CDD, EDD teams and providing expert advice within a financial crime compliance environment.
  • Degree qualification; AML, Financial Crime or Compliance certifications are an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of global financial crime regulations and KYC compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a risk‑based approach to EDD reviews, including PEPs, high‑risk jurisdictions and sanctions exposure.
  • Knowledge of global energy markets (Oil, Gas, Power, Carbon) and financial markets is desirable.
  • Proven leadership experience, with a track record of motivating, developing and driving team performance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and build effective relationships at all organisational levels.
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking capabilities, with the ability to assess complex information and provide clear recommendations.
  • High levels of integrity, sound judgment and professionalism, with a strong commitment to compliance and ethical decision‑making.
