Senior Big Data Engineer; Java + GCP

About The Role

As a Senior Big Data Engineer, you will contribute to building enterprise-scale data solutions for a leading US healthcare provider focused on dialysis services. You will work within Soft Serve’s Big Data & Analytics Center of Excellence, delivering scalable data products and supporting the evolution of modern data architectures across multiple business domains.

• Design and develop scalable data processing pipelines using GCP services, ensuring reliability and performance for enterprise analytics use cases.
• Own data integration and transformation processes, improving data quality and enabling accurate, timely insights for healthcare operations.
• Collaborate with data architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into production-ready solutions.
• Build and maintain data workflows using Dataflow, Big Query, Composer, and CloudSQL or similar cloud technologies.
• Optimize high-throughput data processing systems, balancing performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automation, and platform enhancements using Git Lab CI or similar tools.
• Participate in proof-of-concept initiatives and help introduce new tools, technologies, and best practices into the data platform.
• Support the implementation of data mesh‑inspired architecture and continuous improvement of data engineering practices.
• Maintain and improve Data Platform.
• Integrate EDP with the new source of data bases (Snowflake & Salesforce).
• Implement low-level design per integration with the source data bases.
• Extend platform code for new requirements (Terraform, CI and tier tool infrastructure).
• Automate Data Governance or config generation by introducing AI workflows.
• Document the new patterns.

• Strong hands‑on experience with Google Cloud Platform services, including Big Query, Dataflow, Composer, and CloudSQL.
• Proficiency in Java and SQL for building data solutions and processing pipelines.
• Experience with schema migration tools such as Liquibase or Flyway.
• Solid understanding of data integration, databases, and data connectivity concepts.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Git Lab CI and version control systems.
• Upper‑intermediate or higher English level for effective communication in global teams.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate in a cross‑functional environment.
• Knowledge of Python scripting (as an advantage).
• Understanding of ETL/ELT processes and modern data architectures like Data Lakehouse or Data Mesh (as a plus).
