Location: Onsite in Jamestown, NY
Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 9-5
Compensation: Starting at $23/hr

Position SummaryThe Compeer Program Manager is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and implementation of the Compeer program, a non-clinical mental wellness initiative that promotes positive mental health through meaningful friendships. The Program Manager oversees all aspects of service delivery, volunteer engagement, participant support, community partnerships, and program administration. Compeer provides activities and events as well as one-to-one volunteer mentoring for youth and adults experiencing mental health challenges.
This position plays a vital role in reducing isolation, increasing social connection, and supporting recovery through the healing power of friendship.
- Oversee all day-to-day operations of the Compeer program.
- Conduct participant intake, screening, orientation, and ongoing check-ins.
- Assess participant interests, strengths, and social needs to support appropriate volunteer matches.
- Monitor mentoring relationships and provide guidance, support, and problem-solving as needed.
- Address concerns, boundary issues, or challenges in matches in a timely and supportive manner.
- Facilitate or coordinate small group activities and social events.
- Lead all volunteer recruitment efforts through outreach, presentations, and community networking.
- Screen, interview, orient, and match volunteers with participants.
- Provide initial and ongoing training on mental health awareness, communication, boundaries, and the Compeer model.
- Maintain regular contact with volunteers to offer support, supervision, and encouragement.
- Build and maintain relationships with mental health providers, schools, veterans’ services, senior services, and other referral sources.
- Conduct outreach presentations and attend community meetings and coalitions.
- Increase awareness of the program to grow referrals and volunteer involvement.
- Support fundraising, including annual golf tournament, and public awareness efforts.
- Maintain all program records, progress notes, and documentation.
- Track program data, outcomes, and participation metrics.
- Prepare reports for funders, leadership, and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with agency policies, confidentiality standards, and funder requirements.
- Contribute to budgeting and program planning.
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human services, nonprofit management, or a related field required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in human services, mental health support, volunteer coordination, or community-based programming.
- Experience working with individuals with mental health challenges in a non-clinical or supportive role preferred.
- Experience working independently and managing multiple responsibilities strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of recovery-oriented, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approaches.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with participants, volunteers, and community partners.
