Research Scientist
Location: Town of Poland
ICTER (International Centre for Translational Eye Research) is seeking an experienced and visionary Scientific Director with the academic rank of Professor or Professor Emeritus. We are looking for a leader with a strong background in managing RDI (Research, Development and Innovation) centres who is ready to shape the future of cutting‑edge eye research. Familiarity with the European research landscape, including EU funding programmes, and a track record in international collaborations are desirable.
A strong publication record in vision research is expected. Excellent level of English is required; a working knowledge of Polish is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.
- Strategic leadership:
Direct and coordinate the research projects of ICTER’s five pioneering research groups, ensuring alignment with the Centre’s long‑term vision and strategic goals. - International
Collaboration:
Lead ICTER’s international scientific collaborations, fostering partnerships with leading research institutions and consortia around the world. - Research Funding & Grants:
Supervise the grants department and drive efforts to secure national and international research funding, facilitating the growth of ground‑breaking projects. - Research Management:
Oversee, mentor and inspire research teams, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation and collaboration. - Scientific Communication & Public Relations:
Scientifically coordinate the global promotion of ICTER’s research outputs through high‑impact scientific communication and public relations, positioning the Centre as a global leader in translational eye research. - Ethics & Compliance:
Ensure that all research is conducted in strict compliance with ethical guidelines and regulatory frameworks, maintaining the highest standards of integrity.
- ICTER is a research, development and innovation centre within the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, advancing cutting‑edge vision Hi‑Tech and research, to support the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, enabling faster implementation of new therapies.

- ICTER is the 2024 winner of the Teaming for Excellence / WIDERA grant within Horizon Europe, and the International Research Agenda IRAP FENG grant by the Foundation for Polish Science.
- From 2025, ICTER will be transformed into a Centre of Excellence for research in ophthalmology, established based on the expertise of leading universities and ophthalmic teaching hospitals from the UK (Institute of Ophthalmology, University College London) and France (Institut de la Vision, University of Sorbonne).
The International Centre for Translational Eye Research (ICTER) is a multi‑investigator centre for eye research as related to imaging and biochemical techniques to support advances in understanding the etiology and treatment of human blinding diseases. The new research agenda (carried under International Research Agenda’ project no. FENG.
02.01-IP.05-T005/23) aims to develop new tools for safer and more effective surgical interventions, new therapies for eye diseases, and diagnostic methods to improve prognosis and restore vision. The main technology to be developed under this program will be a novel robotic system for delivering drugs to the eye and performing a tissue biopsy, in which a robotic system will assist the micromanipulation of the injection device with 3‑D localized imaging.
