Offer Description

Project title:
Regulation of cellular heterogeneity as an antibacterial control mechanism of infection

Funded by the National Science Centre Poland

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the laboratory of Prof. Pawel Paszek at IPPT PAN to investigate the regulation and function of cellular heterogeneity during bacterial infection.

The project aims to understand how variability in immune-cell responses influences pathogen control and dissemination. Using the bacterial pathogen Listeria monocytogenes as a model system, we combine experimental infection biology, single-cell genomics, advanced microscopy, and quantitative approaches to investigate host–pathogen interactions across cellular and tissue scales.

The successful candidate will play a leading role in the project and will:

  • Design and perform experiments using Listeria monocytogenes infection models and primary human and mouse immune cells;
  • Lead the generation, analysis, and interpretation of single-cell datasets, including scRNA-seq and scATAC-seq;
  • Develop approaches to investigate transcriptional variability and cell-state transitions during infection;
  • Contribute to supervision and training of PhD students;
  • Coordinate selected project activities and contribute to scientific reporting required by the funding agency;
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in international peer-reviewed journals and present research findings at international conferences;
  • Collaborate with researchers from experimental, computational, and quantitative biology backgrounds.

The project offers a unique opportunity to participate in an ambitious interdisciplinary research programme at the interface of infection biology, immunology, single-cell genomics, and systems biology.

  • Strong publication record appropriate for career stage;
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English;
  • Ability to work independently and contribute effectively to collaborative interdisciplinary projects.

The following qualifications will be considered advantageous:

  • Experience with primary immune cells, bacterial infection models including Listeria monocytogenes, or mouse models;
  • Experience with single-cell genomics, including scRNA-seq and/or scATAC-seq;
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing technologies and analysis of omics datasets;
  • Computational and bioinformatics skills, including R or Python programming, statistical analysis, image analysis, or machine learning;
  • Experience with quantitative biology, systems biology, or mathematical modelling;
  • Pre…
