Medical University of Gdańsk is seeking a candidate for the position of

Junior Bioinformatics Specialist (f/m)

as part of the project entitled “Toward tumor-agnostic multiomic biomarkers in early detection of non-small lung cancer relapse”. The project is funded by the Medical Research Agency under the TRANSMED I programme.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • analysing Oxford Nanopore sequencing data, including DNA methylation patterns and fragment length distributions,
  • developing predictive models using machine learning methods to detect tumour-derived ctDNA based on epigenomic and fragmentomic features,
  • designing and implementing classification algorithms based on regulatory region activity and nucleosome positioning,
  • writing clean, documented and reproducible code,
  • performing preliminary analysis and interpretation of sequencing data,
  • working closely with clinical and molecular biology teams on data interpretation and clinical validation,
  • maintaining research documentation and preparing materials for scientific publications and patent applications,
  • presenting research results at project team meetings, scientific seminars, national and international conferences, and other scientific events.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • a bachelor's degree, engineering degree or master's degree in bioinformatics, mathematics, biology, biotechnology or a related field,
  • experience working with Python and R and applying machine learning methods,
  • experience in image data analysis and its integration with molecular data would be an advantage,
  • knowledge of bioinformatic analysis of genome-wide data would be an additional asset,
  • the ability to plan, conduct and document scientific experiments,
  • fluency in spoken and written English.
