The Senior Genomics Specialist will be responsible for the implementation and development of human genomics activities within the Genetic and Microbiological Diagnostics Laboratory and the G4PL "Genomics for Poland" project, co-funded by the European Union under the European Funds for a Modern Economy Programme .

The successful candidate will participate in the design, implementation, and supervision of genomic workflows, including preparation of biological material for next-generation sequencing (NGS), quality control of input material and output data, interpretation of results, and development of laboratory quality standards. This position plays a key role in ensuring the high quality of genomic data generated within the G4PL project, as well as in strengthening the laboratory’s research, development, and service capabilities.

The Senior Genomics Specialist will actively collaborate with laboratory staff, bioinformaticians, and G4PL consortium partners in the development, harmonization, and optimization of genomic analysis processes. The role also involves participation in research and development projects, implementation of novel genomic methods, and transfer of research outcomes into scientific, clinical, and applied settings.

  • Master's degree or PhD in medical biotechnology, molecular biology, genetics, biology, laboratory diagnostics, or a related field;
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in R&D activities related to genomics, molecular genetics, or next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies;
  • Participation as an active team member in at least two research and development projects;
  • Co-authorship of scientific publications (minimum of 5 scored publications, including at least one publication ranked within the top 10% of journals in its field or industry reports relevant to the Institute's research directions);
  • Experience in NGS library preparation and operation of laboratory workflows related to sequencing technologies;
  • Knowledge of molecular biology methods used in genomics, including nucleic acid isolation and quality assessment, PCR/qPCR, and library preparation for both short-read and long-read sequencing technologies;
  • Experience in the analysis and interpretation of NGS results;
  • Understanding of the operation of research and/or diagnostic laboratories, including work performed according to quality management procedures;
  • Ability to maintain laboratory and project documentation;
  • Independence, attention to detail, responsibility, and strong organizational skills;
  • Experience in implementing research and development projects;
  • English language proficiency at a minimum B1/B2 level, allowing effective scientific communication and use of specialist literature.

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Experience in collaboration with industry partners, particularly in projects focused on implementation and commercialization of research results;
  • Experience working with clinical samples and whole genome sequencing (WGS) projects;
  • Knowledge of pathogenic variant interpretation, including variant calling, annotation, variant classification, and reference databases;
  • Experience in metagenomic analyses, microbiology, or molecular epidemiology;
  • Familiarity with quality standards used in diagnostic laboratories (e.g., PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025, PN-EN ISO 15189).
