Engineering Manager, Telemetry

It is an exciting time to join Mapbox as we build a brand-new Telemetry team from the ground up to power the next generation of navigation, maps, and search products at a global scale. This newly formed team will design, develop, and operate mission-critical services and high-throughput streaming data pipelines that process petabytes of device information and geospatial data. These systems will provide company-wide observability, performance metrics, and actionable insights that directly inform how we can improve all our foundational Mapbox products such as Navigation SDK, Maps SDK, and data products such as Traffic, Movement, Boundaries, and Roads.

This Telemetry team will sit at the core of Mapbox’s strategic initiatives across consumer, automotive, and logistics use cases, directly shaping how millions of people and businesses move through the world.

We are seeking a highly innovative and driven Engineering Manager to develop and execute the vision of our new Telemetry team. This team and initiative will have company-wide scope and impact requiring strong collaboration, communication, and execution skills.

In this role you can expect to:

• Deliver complex, high-impact projects while providing technical expertise and mentorship to your team.
• Operate your team’s day‑to‑day and be hands‑on in project management and sprint planning.
• Manage SRE responsibilities for on‑call and related responsibilities.
• Empathize with internal and external customers delivering features that address their needs.
• Manage and develop the team through hiring, retaining, mentoring, and continually building the team’s capabilities.
• Drive company, product, and team objectives, carrying your team and relevant stakeholders along in the decision‑making.
• Work with Product and Engineering teams to develop the long‑term business strategy driving the team’s work.
• Establish, track, and iterate on operational metrics to ensure the team is delivering products that meet or exceed customer expectations.
• Determine best engineering practices and promote them within the team and across Mapbox.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, diversity, and data‑driven decisions on the team.

• 5-8+ years of people management experience

  You have managed remote engineering teams leading to product execution and business outcome while growing and developing a team of engineering talent.

• Technical Expertise

  You have deep knowledge and experience of building scalable web services in either GCP, Azure, or AWS.
