Job purpose
The Backlog Inventory Specialist is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and managing inventory backlogs to ensure accurate stock levels and timely fulfillment of customer orders. This role plays a critical part in maintaining operational efficiency by identifying discrepancies, resolving inventory issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize inventory flow.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Inventory Management:
- Track and reconcile backlog inventory across multiple systems and warehouses.
- Ensure accurate data entry and timely updates to inventory records.
- Backlog Analysis:
- Review and analyze backlog reports to identify trends, bottlenecks, and discrepancies.
- Investigate root causes of inventory delays and propose corrective actions.
- Order Fulfillment Support:
- Coordinate with procurement, production, and logistics teams to prioritize backlog clearance.
- Communicate with customer service teams regarding order status and expected delivery timelines.
- Process Improvement:
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce backlog and improve inventory accuracy.
- Assist in creating SOPs for backlog management and inventory reconciliation.
- Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain detailed backlog and inventory reports for management review.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to collaborate across departments.
- Strong sense of urgency and accountability.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work in a warehouse/manufacturing environment.
Working conditions
This job is an onsite position that operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.
Physical requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
- Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience:
- 2+ years in inventory control, supply chain, or operations roles.
- Experience with ERP systems and inventory management software preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
