Position Overview
Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, and managing effective instructional activities. The instructor will design, teach, and assess mathematics courses for transfer and career‑technical programs while fostering an inclusive environment and maintaining professional status.
Responsibilities- Teach departmental mathematics courses designed for transfer and career‑technical programs.
- Develop learner‑centered lesson plans, employ diverse teaching strategies, incorporate technology, and model a quality learning environment for a diverse student population.
- Create, distribute, and use instructional materials, including syllabi, supplementary materials, and instructional media.
- Assess student learning outcomes in courses, cross‑curriculum programs, and general education as appropriate.
- Participate in professional development activities and maintain current credentials or licensure required by program or accreditation.
- Oversee facilities, equipment, and student records; maintain classroom and laboratory spaces, ensure safety, and meet deadlines using technology‑based programs.
- Conduct recruiting activities, promote retention by assisting students to develop strategies for success, and refer students to campus and community resources.
- Demonstrate and model the college’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork.
- Maintain student records and perform all duties assigned by the supervisor.
- Master’s degree in Mathematics or a related field from a regionally accredited university with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in mathematics.
- Doctoral degree in Mathematics preferred.
- Post‑secondary teaching experience in mathematics courses.
- Community college teaching experience preferred.
- Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Experience with distance learning and/or alternative instructional delivery systems.
- Multi‑task effectively.
- Respect diversity.
- Adapt to changing procedures, protocols, or assignments.
- Create and maintain a learner‑centered environment.
- Communicate effectively.
- Apply technology solutions effectively.
- Mandatory GTCC trainings upon initial hire and annually; other required trainings may be added as needed.
- Reporting Requirements.

- Shooter on Campus (within 30 days of hire, annual refresher thereafter).
- Personal Information Protection (within 30 days of hire, annual refresher thereafter).
- Ethics and Social Responsibility (within 30 days of hire, annual refresher thereafter).
- eLearning Level One (before first day of first semester).
- eLearning Levels Two and Three for online or hybrid delivery methods (before first day of first semester).
May include teaching day and evening classes and duties at multiple campuses.
