Teaching faculty at GTCC are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. The instructor will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.
Under general supervision, this individual will prepare and teach French courses designed for transfer and support of career‑technical programs. The faculty member must be able to instruct a wide variety of topics within the classroom, via Canvas, and manage concepts/resources in an online learning laboratory environment. Candidates may be required to teach day, evening and/or weekend hours.
Responsibilities- Teaching
- Develop learner‑centered lesson plans
- Employ teaching strategies and instructional materials for different learning styles
- Incorporate current technology pedagogically in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments
- Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population
- Prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate
- Conduct assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education as appropriate
- Professional Development
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in field; maintain current credentials or licenses as required by program or accreditation
- Participate in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies
- Administration
- Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces, including upkeep of assigned equipment
- Provide security of facilities, equipment, and instructional materials and maintain safe working conditions
- Maintain student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using a variety of technology‑based programs (e.g., Colleague, Self‑Service, Canvas)
- Comply with all applicable college, state and federal rules and regulations
- Student Support
- Conduct recruiting activities
- Promote retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success
- Refer students to campus and community resources when appropriate
- Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain student records
- Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor
- Education Required – Master’s degree in French or a related field from an institutionally accredited university with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hour credits in French.
- Education Preferred – Doctoral degree in French from an institutionally accredited university.
- Experience Required – Post‑secondary teaching experience in French.
