Instructor, Computer Technology/Computer Science - Adjunct

Part-time

The instructor is responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. The instructor will provide quality instruction and participate in total affairs of the college.

Under general supervision, the instructor will prepare and teach computer courses designed for transfer and in support of career-technical programs. Areas of instructional emphasis include office applications, software applications, network administration, operating systems, web design, computer programming, cyber crime, and/or hardware installation.

• Prepare and teach departmental courses, including developing learner‑centered lesson plans and employing teaching strategies for different learning styles.
• Incorporate current technology pedagogically in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments.
• Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population.
• Prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support materials such as course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate.
• Conduct appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education.
• Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field and maintain current credentials or licensures as required.
• Maintain professional status by advancing teaching skills and strategies.
• Provide daily and ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment, and student records, including maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces, ensuring security of facilities and instructional materials, and maintaining safe working conditions.
• Maintain student records (e.g., grades and attendance) using technology‑based programs such as Colleague, Web Advisor, and Moodle.
• Comply with all applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations.
• Provide an environment conducive to student success by addressing student concerns, promoting retention/persistence, and referring students to campus and community resources when appropriate.
• Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork.

• Master’s degree in Computer Technology/Computer Science or a related discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credit hours in Computer Technology/Computer Science from a regionally accredited university.
• Teaching and/or industry training experience in computer course content (e.g., office applications, software applications, network administration, operating systems, web design, computer programming, cyber crime, and/or hardware installation).
• Three years of relevant job experience in a computer field within the last five years.
• Post‑secondary teaching experience (preferred).
• Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes (preferred).
• Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems (preferred).

The instructor shall possess an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College, particularly its “open door” policy. Must be able to:

• Mandatory GTCC trainings upon initial hire and annually as required, including:
  Reporting Requirements, Discrimination & Anti‑Harassment, Shooter on Campus, Personal Information Protection, Ethics and Social Responsibility, eLearning Level One, and eLearning Levels Two and Three for online or hybrid delivery.

May include teaching day and evening and on multiple campuses.
