Instructor, Dental Hygiene - Adjunct (Class/Lab/Clinic)

Job DescriptionGuilford Technical Community College (GTCC) seeks an adjunct professor to teach and mentor students in the Dental Hygiene program. The role involves developing course materials, facilitating instruction, and maintaining a supportive learning environment for a diverse student population.
Duties/Functions TeachingPrepare and deliver departmental courses in the following areas:
- Develop learner‑centered lesson plans.
- Utilize teaching strategies and instructional materials that accommodate different learning styles.
- Incorporate current technology in classroom, distance‑learning, and laboratory environments.
- Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population.
- Prepare, distribute, and use instructional support materials, including syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices.
- Conduct appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs.
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field and keep current credentials or licensure as required by program or accreditation.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies.
- Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces, including upkeep of assigned equipment.
- Ensure the security of facilities, equipment, and instructional materials and maintain safe working conditions.
- Maintain student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using technology‑based programs.
- Comply with applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- Address student concerns in a timely manner.
- Promote retention and persistence by helping students develop strategies for success.
- Refer students to campus and community resources when appropriate.
- Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork.
- Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program.
- Baccalaureate degree in Dental Hygiene or related field from an institutionally accredited college/university.
- Current unrestricted license to practice as a dental hygienist in North Carolina or be eligible for licensure in North Carolina.
- Master’s degree from an institutionally accredited college/university.
- American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA) membership.
- Three years or equivalent of full‑time clinical experience as a registered dental hygienist.
- Teaching and/or industry training experience in dental topics in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars.
- Greater than three years of full‑time clinical experience as a dental hygienist.
- Post‑secondary teaching experience.
- Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems.
- Hear and see.
- Stand extended periods of time (up to 12 hours).
- Stoop, bend, squat, lift, reach overhead.
