Instructor, Electrical Systems Technology - Adjunct (Re‑advertised)

Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, developing curriculum courses, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, and developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff. They maintain competency in their instructional field and participate in the total affairs of the college.

• Develop learner‑centered lesson plans.
• Employ teaching strategies and instructional materials for different learning styles.
• Incorporate current technology in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments as pedagogically appropriate.
• Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population.
• Prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate.
• Update and revise curriculum to maintain currency.
• Develop new courses as needed to support the instructional mission.
• Participate in the development and review of course and program/general education outcomes as appropriate.
• Develop, conduct, and document appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education as appropriate.

• Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field; maintain current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation.
• Engage in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies.

• Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment, and student records.
• Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces, including upkeep of assigned equipment.
• Ensure security of facilities, equipment, and instructional materials and maintain safe working conditions.
• Maintain student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using technology‑based programs (e.g., Colleague, Web Advisor, Moodle).
• Comply with all applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations.

• Promote retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success.
• Refer students to campus and community resources as appropriate.
• Model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.
• Maintain student records.
• Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.

• Associate’s degree in Electrical Systems Technology or a related field from a regionally accredited institution (required).
• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (preferred).
• Licensed Electrical Contractor (preferred).
• Minimum 3 years of industry experience as an electrician (required).
• More than 3 years of experience as an electrician (preferred).
• Postsecondary teaching experience or industry training experience (preferred).
• Experience with residential, commercial, and industrial wiring (preferred).
• Experience with motors, motor controls, switch gear, and industrial motor control centers (preferred).

• Mandatory GTCC trainings (upon initial hire) and annual updates as required.
• Reporting requirements.
• Discrimination & Anti‑Harassment training (within 30 days of hire; annual refresher thereafter).
• Shotgun on Campus training (within 30 days of hire; annual refresher thereafter).
• Personal Information Protection training (within 30 days of hire; annual refresher thereafter).
• Ethics and Social Responsibility training (within 30 days of hire; annual refresher thereafter).
• eLearning Level One (before the first day of the first semester teaching).
• eLearning Levels Two and Three for instructors who teach online or hybrid delivery methods (before the first day of the first semester teaching).
• Criminal history checks with acceptable results (required).

• May include teaching day and evening and on multiple campuses.
• Teaching schedule may change semester to semester.
