Job Title

Summary

Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, and developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff. Under general supervision, this individual will prepare and teach training sessions on data analysis, visualization, and modeling using Microsoft Excel and Power BI.

They will create curriculum materials, conduct hands‑on workshops, and help users translate raw data into actionable insights.

Duties and Functions
  • Develop learner‑centered lesson plans.
  • Employ teaching strategies and instructional materials for different learning styles.
  • Incorporate current technology in classroom, distance learning and laboratory environments.
  • Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population.
  • Prepare, distribute and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials and instructional media.
  • Conduct appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education as appropriate.
Professional Development
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in field and keep current credentials or licensures as required.
  • Attend opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies.
Administration
  • Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces, including upkeep of assigned equipment.
  • Ensure security of facilities, equipment and instructional materials and maintain safe working conditions.
  • Maintain student records (grades and attendance) using technology‑based programs such as Colleague, Self Service and Canvas.
  • Comply with all applicable college, state and federal rules and regulations.
Student Support
  • Address student concerns in a timely manner.
  • Promote retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success.
  • Refer students to campus and community resources when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem‑solving, responsibility and teamwork.
Education Requirements
  • Associate’s degree in data science, computer science or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in data science, computer science or related field is preferred.
Experience Requirements
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI (Power Query, DAX and advanced Excel).
  • At least 2 years teaching and/or industry training experience in courses, training sessions, professional development workshops, or other continuing education seminars.
  • Preferred:
    Three years teaching experience in post‑secondary education.
  • Preferred:
    Three years’ experience in Data Analytics, Business Intelligence (BI) and Advanced Excel.
  • Preferred:
    Certified Trainer (e.g., Train the Trainer).
  • Preferred:
    Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Preferred:
    Experience teaching distance learning (online) and/or alternate instructional delivery systems.

  • Physical Demands
    • May include teaching day and evening and on multiple campuses (Greensboro, Jamestown, High Point, or Cameron campus).
    • Typical settings include discipline classroom or computer lab space.
    • Stand for extended periods of time.
    • Lift at least 25 pounds.
