Job Description

Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills,demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. He/she will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in thetotal affairs of the college.

Under general supervision, this individual will prepare and teach courses to students enrolled in the Truck Driver Training program.

The faculty member must be able to instruct a wide variety oftopics within the curriculum, including classroom and over-the-road( OTR ) instruction and may be required to teach day, evening and/or weekend hours.

Duties/Functions Teaching
  • developing learner centered lesson plans
  • employing teaching strategies & instructional materials for different learning styles
  • incorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom, distance learning and laboratory environments
  • creating and modeling a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population
  • preparing, distributing and utilizing instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials,instructional media and other devices as appropriate
  • conducting appropriate assessment of student learning outcomesin courses and programs/general education as appropriate
Professional Development
  • participating in professional development activities to maintain currency in field; maintaining current credentials orlicensures as required by program or accreditation
  • participating in professional development opportunities toadvance teaching skills and strategies
Administration
  • maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned equipment
  • providing for the security of facilities, equipment and instructional materials and maintaining safe working conditions
  • maintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using a variety oftechnology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, Web Advisor,Moodle)
  • complying with all applicable college, state and federal rulesand regulations
Student Support
  • addressing student concerns in a timely manner
  • promoting retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success
  • referring students to campus and community resources when appropriate
  • Demonstrate and model the College's employability skills:adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.

  • Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.

Program Director, Truck Driver Training

Education Required
  • High School diploma or equivalency.
  • Current and valid NC Class "A" driver’s license or ability to obtain license prior to start of class.
Education Preferred
  • Associate's degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.
Experience Required
  • Four years of experience as a licensed operator of a motor vehicle with a current and clean driving record.
  • Three years of relevant industry experience as a Class 'A'(tractor trailer driver) in over the road ( OTR ) 48 stateoperation in all types of weather and terrain.
  • One year as a driver trainer or a graduate from a truck drivertraining school.
  • Teaching and/or industry training experience in truck drivertraining topics in any of the following formats: teaching courses,training sessions to include behind the wheel, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars.
Experience Preferred
  • Greater than three years of relevant industry experience as aClass 'A' (tractor trailer driver) in over the road ( OTR ) 48state operation in all types of weather and terrain.
  • Owner/Operator experience.
  • Greater than one year as a driver trainer.
