Job Title
Instructor, Psychology – Adjunct (Part‑time)
Job DescriptionTeaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimal learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field.
Responsibilities- Prepare and teach psychology courses designed for transfer and support of career/technical programs.
- Dictate teaching across a wide variety of topics within the classroom, Canvas, and online laboratory environments.
- Develop learner‑centered lesson plans and employ teaching strategies for diverse learning styles.
- Integrate current technology into classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments.
- Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population.
- Prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support materials, including syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices.
- Conduct assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education as appropriate.
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field and keep credentials or licenses current as required.
- Engage in opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies.
- Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces, including upkeep of assigned equipment.
- Ensure the security of facilities, equipment, and instructional materials and maintain safe working conditions.
- Maintain student records (grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using technology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, Self‑Service, Canvas).
- Comply with all applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- Conduct recruiting activities.
- Promote retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success.
- Refer students to campus and community resources when appropriate.
- Maintain student records.
- Perform duties assigned by supervisor.
- Master’s degree in Psychology or a related field from an institutionally accredited university with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hour credits in Psychology.
- Doctoral degree in Psychology from an institutionally accredited university.
- Post‑secondary teaching experience in psychology.
- Community college teaching experience.
- Post‑secondary teaching experience in psychology.
- Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems.
- Understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the community college, particularly its “open door” policy.
- Demonstrated personal and professional competence for the responsibilities assigned.
- Ability to multitask.
- Support the vision and mission of the college.
- Adapt to changing procedures, protocols or assignments.
- Create and maintain a learner‑centered environment.
- Communicate effectively.
- Implement and apply technology solutions effectively.
- Mandatory GTCC trainings upon initial hire and annually (Reporting Requirements, Discrimination & Anti‑Harassment, Shooter On Campus, Personal Information Protection, Ethics and Social Responsibility, Linking Student Learning Outcomes, Canvas Certification if teaching online or hybrid).
- May include teaching day and evening and on multiple campuses.
- Criminal history checks with acceptable results are required.
