Instructor, Plumbing Technology - Adjunct
Part‑time position at Guilford Technical Community College. The instructor supports student success by creating an optimum learning environment, managing instructional activities, modeling employability skills, and maintaining competency in plumbing technology.
Responsibilities- Prepare and teach departmental plumbing courses, including developing learner‑centered lesson plans, employing teaching strategies and instructional materials for different learning styles, incorporating current technology in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments, and assessing student learning outcomes.
- Engage in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field, preserve current credentials or licenses required by the program or accreditation, and advance teaching skills and strategies.
- Provide daily and ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment, and student records, including maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces, ensuring security and safety, recording grades and attendance in systems such as Colleague, Web Advisor, and Moodle, and complying with all applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- Provide an environment conducive to student success by addressing student concerns promptly, promoting retention and persistence, referring students to campus and community resources when appropriate, and modeling the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
- Required:
Diploma in Plumbing Technology from a regionally accredited institution. - Preferred:
Associate of Applied Science degree in Plumbing Technology or a related field from a regionally accredited institution;
North Carolina Class 1 Plumbing license or the ability to obtain it before hire.
- Required:
5 years of relevant industry experience in plumbing and teaching or industry training experience. - Preferred:
More than 5 years of relevant industry experience, experience with assessment of student learning outcomes, and experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems.

- Mandatory GTCC trainings upon initial hire and annually thereafter, including reporting requirements, discrimination & anti‑harassment, shooter awareness, personal information protection, ethics and social responsibility, eLearning Level One, and eLearning Levels Two and Three for online or hybrid delivery methods.
- Physical demands:
May include teaching days and evenings and on multiple campuses; teaching schedule may change semester to semester. - Criminal history checks with acceptable results are required.
