Instructor, Adult Education (Transition Program) – Adjunct

Position:
Part‑time.

• Provide classroom and/or online instruction to students, including maintaining attendance records and monitoring progress and retention.
• Determine the needs of individual students, create and utilize engaging lesson plans aligned to the NC Adult Education Content Standards, and serve as a substitute instructor when needed.
• Supervise and advise students regarding attendance, educational and occupational goals, and individual progress plans; manage classroom behavior and uphold the student code of conduct.
• Integrate contextualized career preparation and CASAS or TABE preparation into daily lessons and classroom activities.
• Ensure students are referred to post‑testing as needed for accurate reporting and documentation to track and measure progress.
• Assist in the review and evaluation of student data, outcomes, and goals; report discrepancies to the program director.
• Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork.
• Participate in local, regional, and state professional development initiatives to improve knowledge and skill base.
• Recruit students for program expansion and work with community partners to ensure adequate enrollment.

• Managing frequent interruptions and limited resources.
• Addressing student issues (behavior, health, emergencies).
• Managing community relationships and partnerships.
• Handling multiple priorities and sudden deadlines.

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited post‑secondary institution.
• Teaching and/or industry training experience.
• Fluent reading, speaking, and written English communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Master’s degree in Adult Education or related field.
• Teaching experience in Adult Education (Basic Skills) or post‑secondary education.
• Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes.
• Experience with distance learning and/or alternative instructional delivery systems.
• Previous classroom teaching experience in Math, English, or ESOL.

• Experience in completing and reviewing course documentation, e.g., rosters, contracts.

• Mandatory GTCC training:
  Reporting Requirements, Discrimination & Anti‑Harassment, Shooter on Campus, Personal Information Protection, Ethics and Social Responsibility, Linking Student Learning Outcomes, Moodle Certification (if teaching online or hybrid), and training in NROC, EdReady, Burlington English, or other online LMS systems.

• Schedule may include evenings and occasional weekends.
• Instruction may occur on Greensboro, High Point, or Jamestown campuses, or at a community partner location.
• Work requires mostly sitting with occasional walking or standing.
• Carrying objects or loads of 20 pounds or less.
• Rare exposure to hazardous chemicals, filth, fumes, adverse weather, or personal health and safety risks.
