Job Title
Instructor, Dental Assisting, Class/Lab/Clinic – Adjunct (Part‑time)
Responsibilities- Teaching: Prepare and teach departmental courses, developing learner‑centered lesson plans, employing diverse instructional strategies, incorporating current technology, creating a quality learning environment, preparing instructional materials, conducting appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Professional Development: Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field and advance teaching skills; maintain current credentials or licenses as required by program or accreditation.
- Administration: Oversee classroom and laboratory facilities and equipment; maintain student records and digital records; ensure compliance with college, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- Student Support: Address student concerns promptly; promote retention and persistence by assisting students in developing strategies for success; refer students to campus and community resources; model the college’s employability skills of adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork.
- Educational requirement:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; preference for a Master’s degree. - Professional requirement:
Graduate of a dental assisting program or equivalent; current Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential or ability to obtain before hire; CPR certification with the American Heart Association or ability to obtain before hire. - Minimum clinical experience:
Three years of full‑time chairside dental assisting or equivalent; current unrestricted practice as a dental assistant in North Carolina or eligibility to practice in the state. - Teaching and/or industry training experience, including post‑secondary teaching, experience with dental materials, assessment of student learning outcomes, and distance learning or alternative instructional delivery systems.
- Current Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential or ability to obtain prior to hire.
- CPR certification (American Heart Association) or ability to obtain prior to hire.
- Must be able to hear and see.
- Stand for extended periods (up to 4 hours).
- Stoop, bend, squat, lift, and reach overhead.
