Superintendent/Foreman – Overview

The Superintendent/Foreman manages daily site activities, ensuring projects are constructed in accordance with safety, design, budget, and schedule. The role involves direct supervision of lead personnel and staff on each project site.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the project is built safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Directly manage lead personnel and staff on each project site.
  • Communicate daily with General Superintendents regarding workforce and equipment requirements.
  • Contact job site crews daily to confirm schedule and workforce needs.
  • Schedule subcontractors as needed and monitor their work to ensure adherence to agreements.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by identifying hazards and taking corrective action.
  • Ensure employees are aware of current safety procedures and policies.
  • Conduct daily Job Hazard Awareness meetings, daily stretching, and weekly Toolbox topics.
  • Keep daily records, including logs, equipment schedules, material schedules, and time cards.
  • Manage field personnel fairly and equitably, following company policies and local/federal laws.
  • Address staff performance issues promptly.
  • Participate in pre‑construction meetings to discuss project start‑up and planning.
  • Prepare and attend regular job site meetings throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide accurate documentation for reporting safety issues, equipment damage, and workplace injuries.
  • Ensure all work meets specified quality standards and inspect field work and materials for compliance.
  • Respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or community members.
  • Engage in regular training for construction methods and safety, and support training opportunities for staff.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of any factors that may affect successful performance.
  • Work 8‑10 hour days and occasional weekends as required.
Qualifications
  • 2–5 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • OSHA 10‑hour certification (preferred).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, reports, plans, specifications, and legal documents.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, iPad, and iPhone.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills at all levels.
  • Capability to clearly communicate directions and information to teams and individuals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort with mathematical concepts (fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions). Ability to apply them to practical field quantity situations.
  • Skill in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Capacity to satisfactorily perform all essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Successfully pass a pre‑employment drug test.
  • Must be over 18 years of age.
  • Union affiliation or willingness to join the union is required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
Union Scale Position

The hourly rate may vary depending on geographic location, applicant skills, and prior relevant experience. Benefits offered to Union craft workers include 401(k) and Employee Assistance Program. For Union and Prevailing Wage roles, hourly rate and benefits may vary due to collective bargaining agreements and/or local governing authority.

Physical Demands

Employee regularly required to lift or move up to 50 pounds, sit, stand, walk, bend knees, stretch arms, talk and hear. Occasionally required to stoop or kneel.

Work Environment

Regular exposure to environmental conditions, machinery, loud noises, variable weather (rain, snow, wind, cold, heat) and terrain. Frequent contact with environmental conditions on construction sites.
