Job Description POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant General Superintendent supports the General Superintendent in overseeing and managing daily field operations. This role involves ensuring that work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, budgets, and schedules. The Assistant General Superintendent collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and field crews to ensure quality standards are maintained, safety protocols are enforced, and projects are completed in a timely manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SAFETY
  • Actively participates in all safety training sessions. Assists in identifying training opportunities and contributes to developing and delivering safety content.
  • Regularly observes and provides feedback to employees to promote and reinforce a behavior-based safety culture.
  • Guides crews in maintaining a safe work environment by enforcing company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and other applicable safety standards. Ensures timely and accurate reporting of safety issues in accordance with company policies and procedures.
QUALITY
  • Participate in the bidding and preconstruction process to familiarize oneself with the Owner, Engineer, and Management project expectations.
  • Maintain knowledge of local, county, and state rules and regulations relating to projects and inform crews of how to act accordingly.
  • Stay up to date on construction means, methods, and procedures.
  • Ensure all work follows specified quality standards. Inspect field work for quality compliance, materials for quality compliance, and review the assembly of the manufacturer's literature and drawings before work starts.
EFFICIENCY
  • Provide support to the General Superintendent in identifying projects and personnel with opportunities for efficiency gains.
  • Control costs by efficiently utilizing manpower, equipment, materials, and other resources to minimize costs. Use HCSS Heavy Job Software to determine the most cost‑effective production standards.
  • Support management of day‑to‑day operations in the field, including scheduling and coordinating labor resources, determining material quantity and delivery, staying current on communication between subcontractors, owner, site engineer, etc., and ensuring timecards, logs, estimates, and necessary reports are completed on time. Oversee crew mobilization, moves, etc. Act as liaison between clients, project managers, and superintendents. Participate in activities necessary to close each job appropriately.
LEADERSHIP
  • Remain informed of progress on all jobs assigned and instruct superintendents on issues and areas of concern. Ensure proper authorizations are obtained before beginning work on extras and change orders. Control and monitor all change orders and extra work orders to ensure field completion.
  • Produce and communicate the workforce schedule for projects to keep division crews active and balanced. Track project budgets and work to complete projects within the assigned budget.
  • Manage field personnel fairly and equitably. Address performance issues as they occur. Regularly complete daily reports to record associates' performance. Oversee team dynamics for maximum productivity, quality, and safety. Support and participate in training. Ensure all crews are trained properly in safety, skill, and supervisory skills where applicable.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss project start‑up and future plans. Prepare and participate in regular job site meetings throughout the project. Assure leadership is informed on all matters of relative importance.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Experience:

    Minimum of five years as a Superintendent overseeing construction projects, preferably in construction or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Certifications:

    HAZWOPER, OSHA 10‑Hour and 30‑Hour, Pipelayer's Card, Excavation Safety Training, Confined Space Entry, Blueprint Reading, CPR, and First Aid certifications—or the ability to obtain them.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, iPad and iPhone applications.
