The University of Jamestown, a private Christian liberal arts university founded in 1883, invites applications for an Open Rank Professor of Sociology, beginning August 2026. We seek a dynamic scholar‑teacher committed to excellence in undergraduate education, research, and service within our faith‑based community. This role emphasizes innovative teaching in core sociology topics, including deviance, social problems, and writing to provide a strong theoretical base for students as the progress into specialized criminal justice coursework.

The successful candidate will contribute to our undergraduate programs and interdisciplinary initiatives in social sciences and public service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach four undergraduate courses per semester including introductory sociology, deviance and social control, and specialized electives.
  • Participation in ongoing scholarly activity and professional engagement—actively involving students in research is encouraged.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
  • Engage in division and university services, such as curriculum development, committee work, and community outreach.
  • Collaborate with local criminal justice agencies for experiential learning opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Sociology, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated potential for high‑quality teaching, as evidenced by prior teaching experience or strong pedagogical preparation.
  • Active research interests in sociological issues with at least one peer‑reviewed publication or equivalent scholarly output.
