This position is located at the James River Correctional Center, a medium-security correctional JRCC serving adult males in custody. As a teacher, you ll work in a structured classroom environment where education plays a critical role in rehabilitation and successful reentry.

What You ll Do
As a Teacher, you will:
- Plan and deliver daily instruction in academic subjects such as literacy, mathematics, and GED preparation, and when appropriate, vocational or life skills.
- Adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students with learning disabilities or limited educational backgrounds.
- Utilize approved educational software and instructional technology while following JRCC security requirements.
- Assess students educational levels and develop individualized learning plans based on assessment data.
- Monitor student progress, adjust instruction as needed, and maintain accurate educational records.
- Administer standardized assessments such as the TABE and GED examinations and track student outcomes.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment within the correctional setting.
- Encourage student engagement, accountability, and positive behavior while enforcing institutional rules and expectations.
- Collaborate closely with correctional staff to ensure safety and security protocols are followed.
- Participate in teacher meetings, professional development, required in-service training, and ongoing collaboration with education and JRCC staff.
- Successfully complete Correctional Officer training and annual required training.
- Stay current with educational best practices and correctional education standards.
