The Senior Project Engineer plays a critical role at Interstate Engineering, guiding the successful planning, execution, and delivery of complex civil engineering projects across our region. This position is trusted with leading high-impact work, shaping project strategy, and serving as a key partner to clients, communities, and internal leadership.
In this role, you’ll provide technical and project management oversight from concept through construction, balancing scope, schedule, budget, and quality while navigating regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations. Senior Project Engineers at Interstate Engineering lead multidisciplinary teams, make informed decisions with confidence, and mentor the next generation of engineer, helping build both strong projects and strong people.

Key Responsibilities- Lead the development of project strategies, plans, and budgets for large-scale projects, ensuring alignment with Interstate Engineering’s strategic objectives.
- Monitor and manage project portfolios, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and delivering measurable outcomes for clients.
- Identify and mitigate high-level risks, implementing proactive strategies to ensure project success and client satisfaction.
- Provide detailed reports and updates to senior leadership and clients, maintaining transparent communication on project status, challenges, and solutions.
- Manage multidisciplinary project teams, fostering collaboration, resolving conflicts, and ensuring efficient resource allocation across departments.
- Mentor Project Engineers, Staff Engineers, and Engineering Technicians, supporting their professional growth and preparing them for leadership roles.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with key clients and stakeholders, collaborating with Funding Specialists to secure additional project funding when applicable.
- Lead high-level meetings, negotiations, and presentations, incorporating community feedback gathered by the Community Engagement Specialist to address client and community needs.
- Collaborate with Surveyors, Planners, Landscape Architects, and Environmental Specialists to integrate multidisciplinary solutions, such as sustainable infrastructure or resilient design, into project plans.
- Provide high-level technical guidance and oversight for project deliverables, ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations across all projects.
- Work with the Marketing Director to highlight successful projects in marketing campaigns, showcasing the firm’s expertise and enhancing its reputation as an industry leader.
- Participate in professional development to enhance strategic leadership skills, preparing for advancement to roles such as Principal Engineer, or exploring related roles like Client Manager through cross-training in broader operational leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 10–12 years of experience in civil engineering, with at least 5 years in a project management role.
- Advanced project management skills, including proficiency in project management tools.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering principles, industry standards, and regulations.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and stakeholder relationships.
