Mechanical Design Engineer I
Collins Aerospace is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer I to perform product design for our airplane cargo systems under the guidance of senior mechanical design engineers. You will support a variety of basic activities in the discipline formulating designs, investigating design factors, developing preliminary layouts, conducting analysis, and making layouts of assemblies.
What You Will Do:
- Thoroughly review and understand product specifications and determine design requirements and scope of work.
- Generate design concepts in conformance with above and ensure that adequate trade studies and analyses are performed to arrive at optimum design configurations.
- Be proficient in CAD solid modeling to be able to prepare CAD Layouts and detail drawings.
- Coordinate with the Drafting group on preparation of drawings, perform initial engineering drawing check, and approve prior to release.
- Support design verification testing and coordinate with test department.
- Provide necessary engineering support for new hardware fabrication.
- Interface with all other functional groups and departments as required in the development of the product design.
- Use department computer technology in an independent and productive manner.
- Develop conceptual mechanical designs.
- Performs component and assembly design along with validation testing and documentation of Mechanical hardware to achieve cost, weight and environmental requirements.
- Executes value engineering, new product introduction, and production support projects.
- Establishes hardware design requirements traceability, flow down requirements, develop and test.
- Develops documentation of design via formal reports Prepares and presents designs for customer and certification authorities.
- Drives the usage of appropriate Lean Product Development tools to support cost-effective technical solutions with heavy focus on platform design, reuse and knowledge management.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major obtained by start date.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) program experience
- Have a working knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
