Position: Nurse (Outpatient)

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive, evidence‑based, patient‑centered nursing care in an ambulatory setting for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Utilize professional competence, leadership, and clinical judgment to deliver high‑quality care for a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Oversee licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants as appropriate, ensuring effective care coordination, health promotion, education, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform outpatient nursing duties including triage, patient assessment, medication administration, and documentation in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Implement standardized disease‑management guidelines and coordinate referrals or consults as necessary.
Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must register with Selective Service.
  • Successful completion of an E‑Verify employment verification check.
  • Background investigation required; completion within five calendar days of issuance is mandatory.
  • Availability for rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays; may include on‑call or standby duties.
  • Direct deposit setup for salary disbursement.
  • Compliance with public law requirements for positions involving contact or control over Indian children.
  • Obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges and required licensure throughout employment.
  • Measles, rubella, and influenza immunizations as required by IHS health‑care facility policies.
Qualifications
  • Graduate level degree in nursing (bachelor’s, associate, or diploma) from an accredited professional nursing program.
  • Current, active, unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
  • Passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
  • Minimum of one year of specialized outpatient nursing experience for GS‑07 level; additional experience or higher degrees required for higher grades (GS‑09, GS‑11, etc.).
  • For foreign nursing graduates, official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.
  • Documentation of anticipated completion of education and licensure for entrants with up to six months remaining.
