Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to residents. The RN collaborates with residents, families, and interdisciplinary colleagues, including providers, to plan, implement, and evaluate care. The RN demonstrates competency and practice within the full scope of nursing expertise, using age- and population-specific standards appropriate for the assigned clinical setting.

Responsibilities include caring for residents in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, and treatment; coordinating care; conducting resident assessments; providing resident education; and performing a variety of nursing interventions. The RN may serve as charge nurse, delegating tasks to licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel within the job descriptions, skill sets, resident care needs, and competence levels. They offer assistance and support to ensure safe, reliable administration of resident care and resolve care and service concerns.

Practice is guided by the Nurse Practice Act, administrative rules, and the American Nurses Association's Scope and Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.

Qualifications

Graduates from a nationally accredited nursing program are preferred, including but not limited to programs accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), or National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred. The applicant must currently hold an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where nursing practice occurs and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.

Required department-specific competencies and certifications must be obtained and maintained.
