Provide safe and energy‑efficient operation, maintenance and repair of central heating plant equipment to provide a reliable steam supply and ensure adequate heating and cooling is maintained for all campus buildings at the State Hospital in Jamestown, ND.

As a Heating Plant Operator
, you must understand high‑pressure boilers and their functions of steam distribution and condensate return. You will operate, maintain and adjust boilers, furnaces, engines, pumps, heat exchangers, generators, motors, chillers, cooling towers, and associated equipment. You will make periodic inspections and minor repairs, perform preventive maintenance, read meters and gauges and log the data, keep records and write reports. You will inspect low‑pressure boilers in accordance with a unified inspection procedure and may operate a motor vehicle.

You will also perform daily boiler and condensate water chemical testing.

You keep the safety and comfort of individuals at the forefront. You have the knowledge and ability to use equipment required to complete maintenance and repairs. You handle difficult and stressful situations with composure and convey information clearly and concisely. You have initiative, a proactive mindset and can work independently and within a team. You also have an understanding of the chemical treatment program to interpret results and make adjustments to the chemical feed.

To be considered for this position you must have a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in one or more of the trades areas in which duties will be performed, or in related work that demonstrates a general knowledge of tasks and the skills needed to work in a variety of trades areas. Vocational or technical education in a field comparable to the position’s primary responsibility may substitute for up to one year of the work‑experience requirement on a year‑for‑year basis.

This position is required to be onsite at the State Hospital in Jamestown, ND.
