Mechanical Field Engineer - Major Capital Construction Project

We’re supporting a major, highly complex capital construction project and are looking for an experienced Mechanical Field Engineer to join the team.

This is a hands-on field engineering role for someone who enjoys solving construction and design challenges, working closely with contractors and engineering teams, and seeing projects progress from design through installation, testing and handover.

The Role

You’ll take ownership of identifying and resolving issues affecting the planning, design and implementation of mechanical and process systems. You’ll work across disciplines with structural, electrical and I&C engineers, contractors, vendors and engineering partners to ensure designs are constructible, correctly implemented and fully documented.

Key areas include:

  • Piping, pumps, tubing, welding and pipe supports
  • HVAC and mechanical/process systems
  • Constructability reviews and design completion
  • Field engineering and construction oversight
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications, codes, submittals and 3D models
  • Managing RFIs, Engineering Change Requests and configuration control
  • Field walkdowns, inspections, testing and work-package closeout
  • Identifying and resolving non-conformances and quality issues
  • Working collaboratively with contractors and Engineers of Record
  • Supporting project turnover to commissioning and operations
  • Promoting a strong safety culture across the site

About You

You’ll ideally bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience in construction, project management, field engineering, work execution or work planning on an active capital construction project
  • Alternatively, 10 years’ field engineering experience in a relevant discipline may substitute for the degree requirement
  • Strong ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, procedures, codes and regulations
  • Practical experience resolving field and constructability issues
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently when required
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, plus Adobe and/or Bluebeam
  • The ability to work in an active construction environment, including climbing ladders, entering confined spaces and lifting up to 50 lbs

Experience with in the nuclear industry, particularly construction or operations of Part 50 or Part 70 facilities, would be highly desirable.
