Objective & Relationships

Under the general supervision of the Parks Crew Leader, this position is responsible for essential duties related to the maintenance and operation of the City’s parks and public facilities. The Parks Division maintains over 2,500 acres of public land.

Reports directly to the Parks Crew Leader and indirectly to the Parks Supervisor.

Supervises:
Has no regular supervisory duties.

Essential Duties
  • Maintains clean, attractive, and safe park areas including lawns, flower beds, athletic fields, natural areas, playgrounds, picnic areas, restrooms, parking lots, rights-of-way, pavilions and all associated equipment and improvements.
  • Follows all safety regulations, policies, and procedures; reports all unsafe conditions and acts to supervisor; reports all accidents to the supervisor immediately whenever possible; follows recognized safe work practices.
  • Performs other special projects and other job duties as assigned or required during regular and non-business hours.
  • All employees may be assigned by the City Manager or their designee to perform duties and assume responsibilities that are outside the scope of their work duties when the City Manager has declared a City disaster or the City Emergency Operations Center has been initiated.
Minimum

Position Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Education and Prior Experience
  • 18 years of age or older is required.
  • Experience in grounds and landscape maintenance and equipment care preferred.
  • A valid, state‑issued driver’s license at time of hire is required.

  • Organizational and time management skills to prioritize duties and accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
  • Exceptional communication skills, paired with a strong customer service background, and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Collaboration skills to effectively work with others to achieve common goals through communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving.
  • Safely operating a variety of maintenance and ground equipment, machinery, hand tools, required by the work.
Abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapt to changing priorities, and to work smoothly and cooperatively on a variety of projects.
  • Ability to make decisions according to applicable laws, regulations, established procedures, and the directives of the City Manager and City Council.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technology and computerized systems/building systems in order to detect and diagnose operational problems and maintenance needs.
  • Ability to comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report all unsafe activities or conditions to supervisor.
  • Ability to maintain a valid, state‑issued driver’s license.
