Overview
Provides compassionate nursing care to patients in a clinical setting while supporting Mercyhealth nursing mission and values. Work may involve variable shifts, weekends, holidays, and/or on-call hours, and may require floating to different units based on staffing needs and clinical competency. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Schedule36 hours per week, Days shift.
Night Float RN Responsibilities- Float between inpatient units to provide break coverage, patient sitting, and other tasks as needed.
- Coordinate staffing needs with the NSO/RN House Coordinator.
- Work closely with the RN House Coordinator to assess and prioritize unit needs.
- Coordinate with OPS to support IV starts and clipping needs for first-case arrivals.
- Scheduled according to unit holiday rotation guidelines.
- Assigned based on unit needs; rotation may vary.
- Utilize the nursing process and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies and procedures, standards of care, and State laws/practice act.
- Perform assessments, planning, intervention and evaluation of care.
- Document according to standards of care.
- Develop, initiate, and execute a patient plan of care according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or clinic policy including patient and family instruction.
- Participate in department or unit performance improvement activities, may include shared governance.
- Utilize clinical expertise and guidance to other units and/or departments in support of the patient's longitudinal plan of care.
- Utilize critical thinking regarding patient safety and patient experience and appropriately escalates to the appropriate chain of command.
- Participate in the professional nursing continuum process, unit practice activities and decisions and peer review process.
- Offer ideas and/or solutions to practice issues.
- Use innovative methods and intuitive skills to develop and implement plans of care.
- Provide innovative ways to educate patient-families.
- Initiate interdisciplinary collaboration to meet the patient/family educational needs.
- Actively participate in mentoring and precepting new partners to the organization.
- Positively influence the professional and organizational environments and shared governance.
- Engage in personal development and support system-entity opportunities for continuous learning and growth including developing or revising evidence-based practice guidelines.
- Actively participate in a minimum of 1 departmental or unit performance improvement activity, may include shared governance.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- ADN required upon hire, BSN preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years experience required.
- Licensed as an RN in state of practice.
- Approved CPR/BLS certification required within 90 days.
- Other certification(s) per unit requirements (e.g., ACLS, PALS, PEARS, NRP).
Skills and Abilities
- May include color blind test (per department guidelines).
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
SupervisesSupervises nursing support staff as appropriate.
Pay Range$34.45 - $60.87 per hour.
