OVERVIEW
Provides compassionate nursing care to patients in a clinical setting while supporting the Mercyhealth nursing mission and values. May include variable shifts, weekends, holidays, and/or on-call hours. May also float to different units based on staffing needs and clinical competency. Performs other related duties as assigned.
SHIFT SCHEDULE24 hours per week. Days:
Monday–Friday; weekend call as needed; flexible hours.
- Utilizes the nursing process and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies and procedures, standards of care, and State laws/practice act.
- Performs assessments, planning, intervention and evaluation of care.
- Documents according to standards of care.
- Develops, initiates, and executes a patient plan of care according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or clinic policy.
- Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities, may include shared governance.
- Utilizes clinical expertise & guidance to other units/departments in support of the patient’s longitudinal plan of care.
- Utilizes critical thinking regarding patient safety and patient experience and appropriately escalates to the appropriate chain of command.
- Participates in the professional nursing continuum process, unit practice activities and decisions and peer review process.
- Offers ideas and/or solutions to practice issues.
- Uses innovative methods and intuitive skills to develop and implement plans of care.
- Provides innovative ways to educate patient/families.
- Initiates interdisciplinary collaboration to meet the patient/family educational needs.
- Actively participates in mentoring and precepting new partners to the organization.
- Positively influences the professional and organizational environments and shared governance.
- Engages in personal development and supports system-entity opportunities for continuous learning and growth including developing or revising evidence-based practice guidelines.
- Participates in a minimum of 1 departmental or unit performance improvement activities, may include shared governance.

Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) OR Associate Diploma in Nursing (ADN)/Diploma RN with a signed BSN Agreement OR ADN/Diploma RN with 5 years of RN experience OR ADN with Professional Nursing Certification. Minimum 3 years of RN experience required.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE- Licensed as an RN in state of practice.
- Approved CPR/BLS certification required within 90 days.
- Other certification(s) per unit requirements (e.g., ACLS, PALS, PEARS, NRP).
